Kent R. Erickson practices in the field of intellectual property law, focusing primarily on the acquisition, registration, maintenance and enforcement of patents, trademarks and copyrights for his clients, with particular emphasis on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution in the mechanical and chemical arts. Mr. Erickson is a registered patent attorney and is licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas.

Mr. Erickson graduated cum laude in 1986 with his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and received his law degree from the University of Kansas in 1990. He has taken an active role in the legal community, currently serving as a director for the Lawyers Association of Kansas City. Mr. Erickson has previously served as the Chair of the Patent, Trademark & Copyright Committee for both the Missouri Bar and for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, as a member of The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Council, as a director and as President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City and as Vice Chair of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division.

James J. Kernell, member, has over 12 years of industry experience in electrical and software engineering before entering the practice of law. He is involved in all phases of patent, trademark and copyright related matters, including litigation, patent and trademark searches, preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, and preparation of license agreements. His patent prosecution work focuses on electrical and computer technologies including software, hardware and internet related technologies.

Mr. Kernell is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Missouri Bar. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Ginnie Chase Derusseau practiced intellectual property law for several years in Washington, D. C. before returning to Kansas City in 1994. She continues to work in all phases of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law and litigation. She devotes about fifty percent of her time to trademark matters, including trademark application prosecution and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Her patent prosecution work focuses on mechanical technologies.

Ms. Derusseau is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the Kansas, Virginia and the District of Columbia Bars. She is also a member of the Johnson County, Kansas, and American Bar Association (Member: Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law Sections), and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1984 from the University of Missouri-Rolla and his law degree, with distinction, in 1999 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he was a member of the law review and Bench & Robe Society. D. A. N. Chase has practiced in the Kansas City area since 1962 in patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright law and litigation. He has represented clients in diverse technologies before various trial and appellate courts including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., which hears all patent cases from the federal district courts. He is a frequent lecturer and is named in The Best Lawyers in America.

Sean T. Bradley worked for over eight years as an analytical chemist at Midwest Research Institute before attending law school. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Rockhurst College (now Rockhurst University) in 1988 and his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law where he served on the Moot Court Board and as Articles Editor on the American Bar Association journal The Urban Lawyer. Mr. Bradley is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to the Kansas Bar, the Missouri Bar, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Tenth Circuits. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, where he recently served two terms as Chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Committee.

Mr. Bradley’s practice includes patent and trademark searches, preparation of patent applications, preparation of trademark and copyright applications for registration, prosecution of applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, client counseling, litigation, and other aspects of intellectual property law such as drafting license agreements and non-disclosure agreements. Mr. Bradley has given presentations on intellectual property law to organizations such as KCCatalyst, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the local chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Kansas Bar Association, and yearly presentations to the UMKC Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic.

Tamatane J. Aga joined the firm as an associate in 2009. His practice focuses on counseling clients on all aspects of intellectual property law. Mr. Aga is a registered patent attorney licensed to practice in Missouri and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to law school, Mr. Aga worked as a senior project engineer for ExxonMobil Corporation where he designed and managed the construction of oil and gas production facilities, abandonment of facilities, and environmental abatement and remediation. Mr. Aga was also a member of the GW Immigration Clinic at the George Washington University Law School where he counseled clients regarding asylum and removal proceedings and successfully argued before the Immigration Court in Arlington, Virginia.
